With only three returning starters on the defensive side of the ball for the Grand Haven Buccaneers varsity football team this season, the consensus among outsiders of the program in early August was that expectations should be downplayed and a rebuilding season could be in store.
More than two months later, senior Norris Ellis and the rest of his teammates sat in the upper level of Kirby Grill in downtown Grand Haven, and what flashed on the television screen on Sunday was proof that they had far exceeded those early expectations.
