In most cases, chicken wings are good - very, very good (especially the Asian Zing wings from Buffalo Wild Wings). But when it comes to describing your golf swing, chicken wing isn't a term you want to hear. Unfortunately, that's exactly the term Scott Janus used when breaking down my swing earlier this week.

When a pair of Dave Buursma's close friends suggested that the trio complete a 1,000-mile bike trip around Lake Michigan sometime in late summer, the Spring Lake native was slightly hesitant to conquer the challenge. Buursma's always been comfortable with a soccer ball near his feet; first as a standout at Western Michigan Christian High School, then during a four-year career at Calvin College.

A family vacation to Montana will force Abby Cole to miss tryouts for the Grand Haven varsity volleyball team this week. The 6-foot-, 5-inch all-stater shouldn't have much to worry about when it comes to her high school team, especially considering she's already earned a spot on a college roster. Cole turned down offers from several of the nation's top programs, including Penn State, which has won the past four NCAA national championships, and committed to the University of Michigan earlier this month.

It's August, and your golf game is in shambles. Good news - there's plenty of time to fix those flaws in your swing and get back to shooting respectable scores. Just don't do what I did and wait until I was ready to toss my clubs in the trash before seeking help.
