Jill Stamison finds it funny, and more than a little ironic, that after a five-year stint on the Western Michigan University track and field team, followed by a decade of professional running, she's best known for a 150-yard dash while wearing high heels.

Spring Lake's varsity volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with wins over Muskegon and Coopersville at Spring Lake High School. The Lakers downed the Big Reds, 25-12, 25-12, then held off the Broncos, 25-23, 25-22. Spring Lake's varsity boys soccer team made an emphatic statement on Wednesday evening as the No. 2-ranked Lakers disposed of the top-ranked DeWitt Panthers, 2-0, in the Division 2 regional semifinals at Grand Rapids Christian.

Spring Lake's varsity tennis team had a pair of flights honored with Division 3 All-State recognition recently, as selected by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association.
