A blown penalty kick late in the first half, then a botched defensive assignment early in the second half left the Spring Lake varsity boys soccer team looking up at rival Fruitport on the scoreboard. Lakers' senior captain Kyle Kendall wasn't worried. "They went ahead, and we looked into each other's eyes and that picks you up,' Kendall said. "We knew we had each others' back.'

Among the names in black, bold print is Justin Abdelkader. Tuesday, the locker room housed the White squad during the Red Wings' Red-White scrimmage, creating a homecoming of sorts for the 2004 Mona Shores graduate and star of Michigan State University's 2007 national championship team.
