Spring Lake pitcher Nick Keller said it would be "a blast' to continue his baseball career first at the community college level, and then possibly at a larger school down the road. Keller has taken the first step in realizing those goals soon, as he signed a national letter of intent last weekend to pitch at Glen Oaks Community College. Glen Oaks, which is located in Centreville, enjoyed tremendous success a year ago in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association standings, clinching the league title with a 24-6 record.

The Grand River Sailing Club hosted the 24th annual 8+8 Crusing Rally on Lake Michigan during a sun-soaked afternoon on Saturday. A fleet of 12 competed in ideal wind and wake conditions, but the emphasis is on fast cruising. A non-competitive staggered start was used, which is determined by each boat's handicap. The course was determined by the win direction from the northwest, locating the rounding committee boat eight nautical miles southwest. This put the point of sail on a beam reach in both eight-mile directions.

Detroit does have a new owner. Tom Gores completed a deal to purchase the team from Karen Davidson less than a month ago.
