"I got the feeling that they were focused and they were in this for the long haul,' Thelen said. "They were ready to fight ‘til the end.' Thelen should have expected it. His Spring Lake team is battle-tested, having returned nearly every key contributor from last season's Division 2 district championship squad.

The Lakers' varsity boys golf team had already scored Lakes Eight Conference jamboree wins at Ludington and Fremont earlier this spring. They weren't about to let either of their rivals come onto Spring Lake Country Club and repay the favor. Spring Lake's varsity tennis team completely dominated host Fremont on Monday in an 8-0 shutout victory. The Lakers had three flights finish with 6-0, 6-0 scores, including Abbey Cook's win at No. 1 singles; Hayley Schram and Madison Khem's victory at No. 1 doubles; and Faith Lee and Morgan Khem's triumph at No. 2 doubles. Fremont managed to win only two games in its other doubles flights. Jori Henderson and Amanda Twu scored a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 for Spring Lake, while Stephanie Sabo and Maddie Parker won by a 6-0, 6-1 final.
