A teenager who police said told them he killed a 16-year-old Traverse City girl has been charged with murder.
Robert Schwander, 17, was arraigned Thursday in a Grand Traverse County court on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Carly Lewis. He's charged as an adult.
He entered a not guilty plea. Bond was denied. A preliminary hearing is June 27.
Police believe Schwander, the son of a sheriff's deputy, killed Lewis on June 2 in a vacant building and moved her body to a sand pile at a public works site two days later.
