A total of 13 varsity competitive cheer teams invaded L.C. Walker in Arena on Tuesday for the Mona Shores Sailor Invitational - the opening competition for many teams in the area. The competition was split among three divisions, with Grand Haven battling against East Kentwood, Jenison and the host Sailors in Division 1, and Spring Lake and Fruitport squaring off against four other schools in Division 2.

Coast Guard City USA received an early present from Santa on Tuesday - a new 41-foot Coast Guard utility boat to place at the city's entrance at U.S. 31 and Seventh Street. "Christmas has officially arrived in Grand Haven now that the Coast Guard boat, the new one, has arrived,' Coast Guard Festival Executive Director Mike Smith said.

When the final horn sounded to signal the end of Wednesday's showdown between Grand Haven and Mona Shores, the victorious Buccaneers spilled out onto the ice and celebrated as if they'd just won the state championship. In fact, Wednesday's 2-1 win over Mona Shores was nothing more than a regular-season O-K Tier I contest, but don't tell that to the Bucs.
