A Spring Lake woman was injured and power was cut to part of the neighborhood Monday after a garbage truck slid through a stop sign and slammed into the woman's sport utility vehicle, and then a utility pole.

High winds caused few problems in the Tri-Cities area, but both Consumers Energy and the Board of Light & Power reported some scattered outages Wednesday and this morning. Gusts reached as high as 62 mph in Ottawa County on Wednesday.

Willie Bennick watched the shot hung up in the wind, slowly descending, then slipping over the outstretched hands of goalie Ethan Beswick and into the net. "Heartbreaking,' Bennick said of the goal, scored by Canton's Daniel Ovesea from 50 yards out with just under four minutes remaining in Saturday's Division 1 soccer state final.

The music of the night may be difficult, but Grand Haven High School performers aren't hiding in the shadows. The students will perform Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera' at 7 p.m. Nov. 10-12 and 17-19 at the school's Performing Arts Center, 17001 Ferris St.

Spring Lake coach Jeremy Thelen typically remains stoic after a victory by his Lakers on the soccer field, but Wednesday wasn't just another win. After Spring Lake's convincing 2-0 win over Mattawan in the Division 2 state semifinals at Plainwell High School, the Lakers' head coach couldn't keep the ear-to-ear smile off his face as he talked about his players planting the seeds for a championship season in early August.

In a feat that has never been accomplished before, there will be a terrific trifecta of West Michigan-area teams that hail from the Lakeshore in the Michigan High School Athletic Association soccer state finals.
