Banner art exhibit at Second CRC Atrium Gallery

• Sep 23, 2017 at 5:00 PM

More than 20 liturgical banners are featured in the latest exhibit of the Atrium Gallery at Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven.

Twelve of the banners were designed at a workshop conducted by artist Machelle Knochenhauer as part of this year’s Calvin Symposium on Worship.

Knochenhauer said the banners, completed by fellow members of Second Christian Reformed Church, are intended to celebrate the order seen in Creation and challenge viewers to take a renewed look at the world.

Other banners include two each that were created by Chris Stoffel Overvoorde and Edgar Boevé, both art professors emeritus of Calvin College. Large banners representing angels are the work of George Langbroek of Jubilee Fellowship CRC, St. Catherines, Ontario.

Also in the show are four sculptures with related poetry, a collaborative effort of Ron and Miriam Pederson, professors emeritus of Aquinas College.

The gallery, at Sheldon and Robbins roads, is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. The exhibit will be displayed through December.
