Fruitport Calvary Christian girls basketball standout sophomore Kelsey Richards was named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Class D BEST girls All-State team for her performance on the court this season.

Richards, who first started on the FCC varsity team as an eighth-grader, broke the career 1,000-point mark this season as only a sophomore, averaging 26 points per game to go with averages of nine rebounds and four assists.

The effort paced the Eagles to an Alliance League title, a Class D district championship and an appearance in the regional finals where they lost to top-ranked Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart.

Through the tournament, Richards posted two 30-point games to lead FCC, who finished the season with a 20-4 overall record.

Western Michigan Christian’s Aubrey Goorman cracked the Class C BEST list after leading the Warriors to a 17-3 overall record, picking up a Lakes Eight Conference title and an appearance in the Class C district finals along the way.

Grand Haven’s Alli Keyser also cracked the BCAM’s BEST list as a Class A Honorable Mention.

The BCAM’s BEST list is compiled by the association’s regional directors and their All-State Chairman Sal Konkle from a list of players nominated by BCAM member coaches.
