Snow day, sparse play

The prep sports calendar reflects the weather this week: whiteout. With all Grand Haven and Spring Lake games and practices canceled Tuesday and Wednesday, people are in search of other winter entertainment. Even outdoor activities are a no-go during the storm with sledders and skiers electing to stay warm by the fire rather than fight the frigid temperatures and blowing snow. Just two young athletes braved the sledding hills at Duncan’s Woods on Tuesday, while the Ski Bowl at Mulligan’s Hollow remained closed.

Among the canceled sporting events Tuesday were Grand Haven skiing, Grand Haven swim at Ludington, Grand Haven boys and girls basketball vs. Rockford, Spring Lake skiing, Spring Lake swim at Grand Rapids Christian, Spring Lake girls basketball at Montague, Fruitport girls basketball vs. Muskegon Catholic Central, Fruitport boys basketball vs. Comstock Park, Western Michigan Christian girls basketball vs. Holland Christian and Fruitport Calvary Christian girls basketball vs. Battle Creek Calhoun Christian. Canceled Wednesday are Grand Haven bowling at East Kentwood, Grand Haven wrestling vs. Rockford and Spring Lake wrestling at West Catholic Jamboree.
