The Fruitport girls basketball team picked up their fourth win of the season Monday night in the opening round of the district tournament, defeating Montague by a final score of 29-25.

The Trojans jumped out to a 10-2 lead through the first quarter, but the Wildcats battled back in the second for a 15-10 Fruitport lead at halftime. Through the third, Fruitport maintained a seven-point lead, 19-12, before closing it out in the fourth with solid play down the stretch.

With Fruitport in foul trouble in crunchtime, Montague shot 8-for-15 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to bring the game back within two points.

Elli Fisher sealed the win with 10 seconds left, draining a pair of free throws to secure their four-point margin.

Andi Quasebarh led Fruitport with seven points, while Sydney Bol and Emily Dirske added six points each and Taylor Burke scoring five more. Fisher and Dirkse led the way with nine and eight rebounds respectively.

The win advances the Trojans to the district semifinals Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Orchard View at Whitehall. In their last meeting on Feb. 28, Fruitport defeated the Cardinals 47-22.
