Core shoots well at Top Shooter competition

Spring Lake senior Jenna Core represented the Lakers at the state championship round Saturday as a participant in the Top Shooter free throw competition.

Core was selected as one of the best free throw shooters in the state for her 81.33%, 61-for-75 performance from the charity stripe this season.

At the competition, two rounds of 25 shots each trimmed the field of 18 participants down to a final field to compete during halftime of the Division 4 state championship game.

Core made 45-of-50 preliminary shots, missing the final cut by just one made shot, but securing a top-10 finish.

Ella Stemmer of Saline High School finished as the winner of the free-throw competition, while Maddie Stevens of Forest Hills Northern won the 3-point contest.
