Keyser named second-team All-State

Grand Haven basketball’s most decorated athlete added to the list this week.

The Associated Press awarded senior Alli Keyser second-team All-State honors on Thursday, adding to her pair of previous honorable mentions nods.

The honor adds to a litany of milestones reached and records reaped for Keyser. Through four years as the Bucs’ starting point guard, Keyser broke the Grand Haven all-time records for points scored in a career (1,394), assists dished in a career (325) and steals swiped in a career (297), plus set all-time marks for points scored in a game (34) and assists dealt in a game (10).

Per-game this season, Keyser marked 17.3 points, 4.2 assists, 3.7 steals and 3.0 rebounds. She shot 46 percent from three-point range, 46 percent from two-point range and 77 percent from the free-throw line.

Keyser is the first Grand Haven basketball player, boy or girl, to have scored 1,000 points as a junior, after racking up 335 in her freshman season, 349 as a sophomore and 346 as a junior.

Her ballistic career earned her first-team All-Conference honors in the O-K Red an unprecedented four times.

“I have been fortunate enough to have coached some fantastic players in my 21 years at Grand Haven,” said Grand Haven head coach Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer. “I believe, overall, Alli is the best player I have ever coached.

“She is phenomenal on both ends of the floor, and contributes in every phase of the game. I don’t want to take anything away from the other great players I have coached, but Alli was special.

“It certainly hurt her we didn’t get out of the district. Playoff runs matter in these things. She is the best player in Grand Haven history and is deserving of a first-team spot, but it is a small team and there are a lot of good players out there. We are extremely proud of her, she works her butt off and earned everything she got.”
