Spring Lake boys hoops runner-up Academic All-State

The Spring Lake boys basketball team left their mark on the court with a dramatic run to the district finals this winter, but their performance in the classroom is what set them apart as a historic team.

The Lakers finished runner-up in the Division 2 BCAM Academic All-State standings with a team GPA of 3.732. The mark finished behind just Cadillac (3.743) in Division 2 boys hoops and was 10th statewide.

Local basketball teams were well represented among the state’s smartest teams. The Fruitport Calvary Christian boys finished 10th in Division 4 with their GPA of 3.560, while the Grand Haven boys (3.583) and the Western Michigan Christian boys (3.491) both earned honorable mention nods.

The girls basketball teams also performed well in the classroom. Spring Lake finished as the first honorable mention team in 11th place for Division 2 with a GPA of 3.8535, while Fruitport turned in a 3.469 to earn an honorable mention.

Fruitport Calvary Christian also finished as the first honorable mention team for Division 4 with a team GPA of 3.866.
