Chili cookoff to benefit Folds of Honor

FERRYSBURG — The 10th annual Smith’s Bayou Chili Cookoff is planned for Saturday, Aug. 27, on Ferrysburg’s Cecilia Lane.

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.

The public is invited. Local chefs will prepare their booths in the morning and chili sampling begins at noon. Judging starts at 1 p.m. and awards will be presented at 3 p.m.

Chili samples will be available for 50 cents each or three for $1.

Local musicians will provide entertainment throughout the day.

Anyone interested in competing in the event can obtain an entry form by emailing [email protected], or by calling Rebecca Hopp at 616-893-8553 or JoAnn Grotemat at 616-850-2636. The registration deadline is Monday, Aug. 22.

Categories include: Hot & Spicy, Meek & Mild, and White Chili. Spectators are also invited to vote for the People’s Choice award.

Cecilia Lane is located near the intersection of West Spring Lake Road and 168th Avenue, just off the Smith’s Bayou bridge.

The Folds of Honor Foundation provides educational support for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving their country. The organization’s West Michigan chapter can be contacted through John Rooney at the Grand Haven Golf Club, 17000 Lincoln St., Grand Haven, MI. 49417.
