FRUITPORT TWP. — The almost $75,000 that was raised at this year’s Chef Prize will benefit the Kids Food Basket of Muskegon County, according to officials from The Van Kampen Boyer Molinari Foundation.

The event took place Sept. 9 at Hampton Green Farm in Fruitport Township.

Kids Food Basket feeds more than 8,000 children in need daily.

“We are continually grateful and humbled by the kindness and generosity of this community,” said Kim Van Kampen, president of the foundation and owner of Hampton Green Farm.

Chef Prize centered around local restaurants and vendors crafting both old favorites and special menus for the day. The food was judged by a panel that included Lupe Izzo and Chef Martial Noguier.

Awards went to Luna of Grand Rapids for gourmet food, Third Street Grill of Muskegon for pub fare and the Culinary Institute of Michigan for dessert.

The Hearthstone took the People’s Choice award.

Around 350 ticket holders attended the event, as well as 150 volunteers and restaurant employees.

Aside from food, patrons enjoyed live music, a luxury and vintage car show, and an equestrian demonstration by two-time Olympian stallion Grandioso.

The 2019 event will take place Sept. 8. Kids Food Basket will again be the beneficiary of the proceeds.
