SPRING LAKE — The Spring Lake Heritage Festival continued its week of fun Tuesday evening with a dog walk starting at Old Boys Brewhouse.

The walk followed the winding route of the boardwalk and ended at William Ferry Park in Ferrysburg.

Debra Whitzer and Diane Schindlbeck took over this event four years ago when it was seemingly losing momentum.

“We are both local pet business owners and always loved the event,” Whitzer said. “We do this because we love the festival and dogs. It is a great event for the Heritage Festival, and all the donations and raffle money go toward our local K-9 equipment fund.”

The dog walk certainly has gained popularity, for two residents of Illinois made the trek just for Tuesday’s event. One of them, Kelly Gallick brought her two dogs, Sawyer and Tucker.

“We happened to be passing through last year and caught wind of the event — we had to check it out,” Gallick said. “We are both dog lovers, so we made sure to include this dog walk in our rounds this year.”

Many other dog owners commented on how much fun it was to come out and intermingle their beloved pets.
