This is part of a regular feature, which will normally run on Saturdays, and will appear on the pages of the Grand Haven Tribune and online at grandhaventribune.com. We’ll sit down with a local personality and ask them several questions.

This week, we’re featuring Kevin Geary.
What’s your current job? Curator of education at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum.

Readers would be surprised to learn that: I walked the red carpet at a movie premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would you pick and why? I'm a great admirer of Jimmy Carter, his humanitarian work, and his work for peace. I would enjoy meeting him.

What’s the coolest place you’ve ever visited? I got to ride on a dogsled on the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska. That was really cool!

What are your hobbies? Reading, classic films, spending time with family and friends, cooking, and theater.

What’s your favorite restaurant? The Green Well in Grand Rapids.

Favorite book? That's a tough question, but probably it would be “Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson.

What class was the most beneficial to you? I would say pretty much any history class I took in college. I enjoyed them all, and in one way or another, they have all been beneficial to me.

Have you ever met any celebrities? While living in California, I met several: Lisa Kudrow (”Friends”), Garry Shandling, Isabel Sanford (”The Jeffersons”) and Margaret O'Brien (”Meet Me in St. Louis”). I also stood feet away from Diane Keaton and Angelica Huston, but didn't "meet" either.

What’s your can’t-live-without piece of technology? My iPhone.

What’s your favorite app? Facebook.

If you weren’t in your current position, what would you like to do? I would like to be the historian of the White House.

If you could travel back in time to any certain era or event, when/where would you pick and why? Although the occasion was surrounded by great sadness and loss, I would have wanted to see Lincoln deliver the Gettysburg Address. I'm a great admirer of Lincoln's.

Who was the biggest influence on your life? Definitely my parents who taught me the value of education and the importance of doing good for others.

What’s your favorite movie or TV show? I thoroughly enjoy “The Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family.”

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? My oldest brother, Patrick, told me to study the subject in college that I loved the most, and not to worry about career choices. That's why I chose to study history, and it did end up being my career.

What do you love about West Michigan? The seasons. Each one is incredibly beautiful in West Michigan, and I always greatly anticipate the next one.

Do you have any pets? No. I love dogs, but am not home enough to take care of one properly.

What’s at the top of your bucket list? To visit as many national parks in the U.S. that I can.

What’s your pet peeve? Tailgaters and aggressive drivers. And there seem to be many on the roads between Grand Rapids and the Lakeshore.
