Citizen Police Academy starts March 7

WEST OLIVE — Registrations are being accepted for a nine-session Citizen Police Academy offered through the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The Thursday night sessions run from 6-9 p.m., beginning March 7 and concluding May 9.

Participants will learn about road patrol, corrections, 911 Central Dispatch, undercover investigations, narcotics, marine patrol, dive team, K-9 unit, Criminal Scientific Support Unit, crime scene investigation, firearms, range, simulator, special operations, legal system, accident investigations and community policing.

Most sessions will be held at the county’s Fillmore Complex, 12220 Fillmore St., West Olive.

Candidates must be age 18 or older, live or work in Ottawa County, have no misdemeanor arrests within one year of application and have no felony arrests.

Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pending a background check and eligibility, applicants will be notified of their acceptance into the academy on or about Feb. 15.
