A Grand Rapids man received a 240-day jail sentence and three years probation when sentenced Monday in Ottawa County Circuit Court on a charge of criminal sexual conduct, ages 13-15.

Taylor Austin Domingues, 20, must also not have any contact with the victim and must register as a sex offender.

The incident occurred early this year in Grand Haven Township. No victim was present at the sentencing to make a statement and no further information on the incident was available.

“I can honestly say this is the biggest mistake of my life,” Domingues said before sentencing. “I want to learn from it. I want to go home and be with my family.”

The prosecuting attorney did not object to a request that Domingues be sentenced under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act. This means that Domingues could have the felony erased from his record upon successful completion of jail time and probation.

Judge Karen Miedema said she didn’t envision granting HYTA for this type of charge, but would do so because the defense attorney, prosecution and the victim’s family were all in favor of it.

“You’re on thin ice and you have to obey the rules, or you will lose HYTA status,” Miedema told Domingues.
