William Raymond Cable, 48, said he was a “new man” since being “saved” in October 2017.
“Since this drinking charge, my life has really changed,” he told Ottawa County Circuit Judge Karen Miedema during sentencing on Monday.
Miedema said she did receive lots of letters in support of Cable, but that his record spoke for itself.
Cable was convicted of impaired driving in 1991, 2000 and 2001. He was convicted of drunken driving in 2001 and 2003, the judge said.
Cable also served a prison term of 6-15 years for unarmed robbery in 2007. He was released from parole in April 2017. He was charged with the latest drunken driving incident on July 22, 2017.
Cable said some of the earlier incidents occurred after his wife died in 2000. He said he and his fiancee had just learned of her cancer diagnosis at the time of the July incident.
Cable was also fined $500 and given credit for 183 days already served in jail.
