A West Olive man charged with a false report or threat of terrorism waived his preliminary examination scheduled for Tuesday morning in Ottawa County District Court.

The next court hearing for Ryan Charles Dime, 31, will be his arraignment in Circuit Court at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 19.

Dime remains lodged in the Ottawa County Jail. Bond has been continued at $40,000 on the terrorism charge and at $250,000 on charges of having dangerous weapons and a convicted felon having a weapon.

The charges stem from incidents in mid-January after police responded to Dime’s West Olive home on a domestic matter, authorities said. Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the residence when Dime allegedly became threatening over a child custody case, police said.

The threatening incidents occurred Jan. 18 at a home in Robinson Township, according to Capt. Mark Bennett of the Sheriff’s Office. Bennett said Dime threatened police officers, family members and Child Protective Service workers.

When police stopped Dime’s vehicle the next day in Olive Township, they found multiple weapons inside the vehicle, but no firearms. The road was closed in the area for an hour during a standoff.

Dime has several criminal charges on his record in Ottawa County, including guilty pleas for being a felon in possession of a weapon and threatening a Family Independence Agency employee in 2017. He also has pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace, driving with an invalid license, and using marijuana between 2010 and 2014. In 2003 and 2006, he was charged with breaking and entering and home invasion.

Making threats of terrorism is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $20,000. Because Dime is listed as a fourth-offense habitual offender and the original charge has a maximum of more than 15 years in prison, he is facing a sentence of up to life in prison if he is convicted.
