A 39-year-old Spring Lake man has pleaded guilty to charges of larceny in a building and second-degree home invasion.

Michael Scott Burchfield made the plea during a hearing Monday in Ottawa County Circuit Court.

Burchfield now faces up to 15 years in prison on the home invasion charge and up to four years for larceny in a building. He has been in jail for 135 days. He remains lodged in the Ottawa County Jail.

During Monday’s hearing, Burchfield told Judge Jon Hulsing that he took a wallet from his mother’s house on Oct. 26, 2017. Three days later, Burchfield broke into his mother’s house and took a television, which he said he pawned.

Defense attorney Michael Zitta requested a bond modification so his client could attend drug court. Hulsing said he would consider that request once all of the details for drug court were in place.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 21.
