The jury found William John Easterling guilty of one count of sexual exploitation of a child, two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possession of pornography.
Easterling faces a minimum of 15 years in prison, up to a maximum of 30 years, when he is sentenced Jan. 14, 2019, at the federal court building in Kalamazoo.
The one-time candidate for the state House 89th District (2010) and former member of the Robinson Township Zoning Board of Appeals also has a trial scheduled for Oct. 3 in Ottawa County Circuit Court on two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Court records show that Easterling has been lodged in the Newaygo County Jail.
According to federal court papers, Easterling, in early December 2015, instructed a 16-year-old boy to record a video of himself masturbating. Easterling kept the video on a hard drive.
Easterling also attempted to persuade a boy age 13-15 to do the same between September 2015 and March 2017, the court indictment said.
No information was available on the criminal sexual conduct cases, other than they occurred or were reported on or about Feb. 14, 2017, in Robinson Township.
