A Holland woman was ordered to serve 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to a modified charge of embezzlement under $20,000 when she was sentenced Monday in Ottawa County Circuit Court.

Maria Ibet Delgado, 41, “made poor choices while under the influence of substances,” said her attorney, Christi Burda.

The defense attorney also noted that her client had no criminal history and was working hard to pay back the money she owed to her former employer.

“This is a calculated decision by you to steal from your employer,” Judge Karen Miedema told Delgado.

Miedema also put Delgado on probation for 18 months and ordered her to pay back $28,500 in restitution. The judge would not allow work release.
