Each Friday on the pages of the Tribune and online at grandhaventribune.com, we will highlight a Classroom of the Week.

This feature sheds light on the work students and teachers are doing, and it lets the community know what makes each class special.

Here’s more about this week’s featured classroom:

Teacher's name: Joni Bennett – “Mrs. B. “

Number of students: 22

School: Mary A. White

Grade: Young Fives

What makes your classroom special? My students, each and every year.

What is your classroom's motto? We love learning “new stuff!”

What is your classroom the most proud of? We have learned the Pledge and school song in the first month of school. We will also be learning numerous other important songs like: Semper Paratus, Anchors Aweigh and the MSU Fight Song along with all sorts of other fun things like math, writing, state facts about Michigan and beginning reading strategies to name a few exciting activities.

Fun fact about your classroom: We love to dance, sing and show-off all we learn. We also are collecting pennies to support the Coast Guard Museum in Virginia since we are Coast Guard City, USA.

What would you like the community to know? Y5s is a fun entry into the beginning of a school career. We enjoy learning through songs, various activities and “guest” presentations. Y5’ers do an excellent job with endurance to an “all day” program. We are so lucky as a school district to offer a Y5s program to the young 5-year-olds of our community.

Classroom of the Week is sponsored by Little Smiles and Smile Orthodontics.
