Each Friday on the pages of the Tribune and online at grandhaventribune.com, we will highlight a Classroom of the Week.

This feature sheds light on the work students and teachers are doing, and it lets the community know what makes each class special.

Here’s more about this week’s featured classroom:

Teacher's name: Jessica Coulon

Number of students: 22

School: Walden Green Montessori

Grade: Second and third

What makes your classroom special? Our multi-age classroom. The third-graders are able to mentor the second-graders and the second-graders look up to and learn from the third grade. This helps build self-confidence, empathy skills and promotes positive peer pressure.

What is your classroom's motto? Be a peacemaker.

What is your classroom the most proud of? How we work together, help one another, and care for the classroom environment.

Fun fact about your classroom: Each morning we practice a mindfulness exercise that the students really enjoy.

What would you like the community to know? Montessori is about freedom within limits. Students learn responsibility, practical life skills, social skills and care for the environment along with their regular academics.

Classroom of the Week is sponsored by Little Smiles and Smile Orthodontics.
