FRUITPORT TWP. – Bikes, scooters and people walking filled a section of Heights Ravenna Road on Wednesday morning.

Nearly 125 students, parents and educators at Beach Elementary School participated in National Bike to School Day. Before heading to school, everyone gathered at the nearby carwash.

As everyone gathered before riding off, first-grader Madison Coleman said she felt good joining everyone.

Wednesday marked the second or third time that Dawn Morin and her grandson, Cade Calkins, participated. Morin said she enjoys the event because of the students and having a chance to be outdoors.

Calkins, a fifth-grader, said he also enjoyed having the opportunity to ride his bike to school along with his classmates.

“It’s nice,” he said.
