SPRING LAKE — Beloved dogs, a turtle and a rabbit were all blessed Wednesday.

Despite the morning mist, families and parishioners brought their pets to be blessed by Father Dave Gross as part of the annual Blessing of the Pets event at St. Mary’s Catholic School to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

Gross said everyone had a chance to come together and celebrate God’s creations.

As Gross walked through the crowd with holy water, Gina Wiedenhoeft held onto 2-year-old Zuke, who tried befriending fellow four-legged friends. The Wiedenhoeft family recently adopted Zuke from the Harbor Humane Society after he was rescued from Hurricane Irma. Wiedenhoeft said they wanted to make sure the newest member of their family received a special blessing.

Gina Wiedenhoeft’s children — Noelle, Landon and Paxton — attend St. Mary’s School.

Noelle, 9, said she liked having Zuke at the event.

“He loves giving hugs and kisses,” she said.
