Older classmates high-fived the kindergartners and parents took pictures as the Holmes Elementary School students celebrated being emergent readers.
In the first unit, students worked on reading skills such as hearing different sounds and learning the difference between letters and words. They also worked on storytelling alongside pictures in books they’ve read many times, developing character voices and fluency.
“We welcome all forms of reading,” said kindergarten teacher Megan Dean.
Kindergartner Annika VanDruemel said she likes reading and learning new words.
“I loved the parade because it was so much fun,” she added.
