Dancing the night away

Giant mushrooms and brightly colored decorattions greeted Grand Haven High School students attending the Mad Hatters Ball, while the Lakers from Spring Lake High School attended their waterfront event, Anchors Away.

The GHHS junior/senior prom was held Saturday night at the Grand Haven Community Center. The same night, SLHS students went by car or boat to the Spring Lake Yacht Club in Ferrysburg for their nautical-themed event.

Spring Lake Junior Class President Charlie Parker, whose family has a membership to the yacht club, said, “we thought it would be fun (to have the event there) with the outside area.” He and his friends were one of the groups that arrived for prom by boat.

He said that he was thankful they had good weather for the event, considering how spring was going.

Another couple arrived on a sailboat.

Parker said there was a tent set up out back for dancing. Tables were in the main building and drinks were served under lights on the yacht club deck.

“We had a huge turnout,” he said. “It was really good to see the whole school being so supportive.”
