MUSKEGON (WZZM-TV) — A Muskegon drug dealer who has spent the past decade in and out of prison is now facing federal charges that could put him behind bars for at least 20 years.

Darrell Christopher Hunt, 44, was indicted this week for trafficking cocaine and heroin in Muskegon County. His September 2015 arrest comes just nine months after he was paroled on a 2013 drug conviction.

“He was probably providing a great deal of the heroin coming into Muskegon and Muskegon Heights,’’ said Lt. Andrew Fias, head of the West Michigan Enforcement Team, a multi-jurisdictional narcotics unit for Muskegon, Ottawa and Allegan counties. “In our area, heroin is No. 1, but we haven’t seen a lull in cocaine either.”

Hunt came onto police radar over the summer when WEMET received information that he was bringing narcotics here from Chicago. Investigators determined he left Muskegon for Chicago on Sept. 12 and returned later that day.

Police stopped his 2014 Kia Sportage after he pulled out of a Grand Haven gas station, court records show. A drug-sniffing dog indicated the presence of narcotics.

Troopers found 3.5 ounces of heroin and nearly a pound of cocaine in a sealed Kool-Aid box in the car’s back seat. The seized drugs had a combined street value of more than $45,000, police said.

Hunt was also carrying $1,446 in cash, court records show.

Hunt — who goes by the street name “Brick’’ — told investigators he was fronted the drugs by a Chicago man to sell in the Muskegon area. Hunt said he travels to Chicago about once of month for narcotics, court records show.

A search of his home on Commerce Street south of West Laketon Avenue turned up additional cocaine in a bedroom.

Hunt was paroled in December 2014 for a Muskegon County drug conviction a year earlier; one of eight felony convictions dating back to 2004.

Hunt, who is unemployed, was living with his wife and her daughter in Muskegon, court records show.
