Threatening email sent to Coopersville schools

COOPERSVILLE — Police are investigating a threatening email sent to Coopersville Public Schools on Monday, March 7.

Capt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said school officials received an email at about 2:10 p.m. that indicated potential harm to students and staff. School officials immediately contacted the school resource deputy, who contacted additional resources at the sheriff’s office.

School staff checked security of all exterior doors and responding deputies checked the area for any suspicious activity.

As of Monday afternoon, there was no reason to believe the threat is credible, Bennett said. However, the matter is being taken “very seriously” and the investigation is ongoing.

School activities took place the rest of the day as scheduled, Bennett said Monday afternoon.
