POLKTON TWP. — A Holland teenager told police he didn’t know what happened prior to a rollover crash Monday night on I-96 near Coopersville.

Dustin Mellen, 18, told Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies that he was on his way to work in Coopersville at the time of the 10:28 p.m. crash.

Police said Mellen was eastbound on I-96 in his 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix when his car went off the road and rolled an unknown number of times into the median.

Mellen was conscious when police arrived, but the youth told police he was on his way to work and then doesn’t remember anything until after the crash.

An ambulance transported Mellen to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Hospital officials said Tuesday morning that the teen was treated and released.
