ALLENDALE TWP. — Police say an investigation into an armed robbery reported Saturday night at an Admiral gas station in Allendale Township never happened.

The clerk could be charged with obstructing police with a false police report, Capt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.

Officers from the Sheriff’s Department and Grand Valley State University Department of Public Safety responded to the gas station and convenience store at the northeast corner of M-45 and 68th Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday on a report of an armed robbery. The 24-year-old female clerk told police that a heavy-set man in dark clothing said he had a gun and demanded money from the cash register. The man allegedly took the money and fled the store on foot.

A police K-9 unit was used to help search for the suspect, but nothing was found.

After a series of interviews, Bennett said it was clear that the incident did not happen.

The case will be turned over to the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office for a possible charge of obstructing police by false report, the detective said.

The incident remains under investigation.
