ROBINSON TWP. — Two Grand Rapids residents were injured when their motorcycle rear-ended a car they couldn’t see was stopped because of a cloud of dust, said Ottawa County Sheriff Sgt. J. Douglas.

Ambulances transported Bruce Ivie, 48, and Amy Ivie, 47 to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids following the 3:26 p.m. crash Saturday on Lake Michigan Drive near 104th Avenue.

Buter said that an eastbound car driven by Darlene Clements, 58, of Grand Haven, had slowed to make a turn. A pickup truck behind her abruptly swerved to the right, onto the shoulder of the road and kicked up a cloud of dust as it passed the car.

The oncoming motorcyclists couldn’t see through the dust that the car in front of them had stopped and ran into.

Both motorcyclists were thrown.

Buter said they were wearing helmets.

The motorcyclists were in stable condition when transported to the hospital, he said.
