A Grand Rapids woman has died three days after a crash in Polkton Township, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Austin said the Kent County Medical Examiner’s office notified the Sheriff’s Department shortly after noon Tuesday that Angeline Welsh, 89, had died as a result of her injuries.

Welsh was a back-seat passenger in a car driven by Larry Dorwin, 54, of Muskegon that was involved in a two-vehicle crash shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Cleveland Street and 88th Avenue, west of Coopersville. Police said Dorwin’s car smashed into the back of a van that was making a left turn onto 88th Avenue.

Welsh was not wearing a seat belt, police said. She was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after the crash in critical condition.

The crash is still under investigation.
