ALLENDALE TWP. — A 26-year-old Grand Haven Township man was injured Tuesday morning when his pickup truck left the road and hit some trees in the Allendale area.

Andrew Smits suffered “unspecified injuries” in the 10:20 a.m. crash, said Sgt. Chris Dill of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Smits was driving his 2015 Ram truck south on 68th Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle north of Pierce Street, near Allendale High School in Allendale Township. The truck left the road and struck several trees, Dill said.

Life Ambulance transported Smits to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in stable condition, Dill said. On Tuesday afternoon, hospital officials said Smits was in serious condition.

Smits was not wearing a seat belt, Dill said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
