HOLLAND TWP. — A 22-year-old Holland woman was arrested after she hit a bicyclist late Wednesday night at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Riley Street.

The bicyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Holland Hospital, according to Sgt. Christie Wendt of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Timothy Phongkhamtay, 31, of Holland was riding his bicycle east on the north side of Riley Street and crossing U.S. 31 at about 11:42 p.m., police said. The young woman was driving west on Riley, turned north onto the highway and struck Phongkhamtay.

The driver stopped to see if the bicyclist was OK, Wendt said. Phongkhamtay told police that he said “no” before the woman left the scene.

A witness got the license plate number from the woman’s car and the vehicle was found a short time later in the area of U.S. 31 and Stanton Street. She was arrested and lodged in the Ottawa County Jail on misdemeanor charges.

Her name was not released pending court arraignment.
