HOLLAND TWP. — A dog was killed and the man walking it injured when a car lost control and went off the road Monday morning in Holland Township.

James Stelter, 66, of Holland suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the 8:48 a.m. incident, according to Sgt. David Vanderploeg of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. An ambulance transported Stelter to Holland Hospital.

The driver of the car, 43-year-old Michelle Trejo of Holland, was not injured.

Police said Trejo was driving her 2005 Chevy Aveo east on Quincy Street when she lost control of the car, crossed the centerline and went off the north side of the road near 140th Avenue. That’s where the car struck the pedestrian and his dog. The car ended up on its side.

Vanderploeg said the pedestrian was walking his dog on the bike path.

Trejo was ticketed for reckless driving.
