'Every second counts'

“Every second counts: Plan two ways out” is the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 8-14.

Local fire departments are hosting open houses to promote that message, as well as offer information on prevention and dealing with small fires.

Families will get a chance to meet firefighters, ride fire trucks, see demonstrations and learn how to use fire extinguishers or a fire hose. There will be games at some events, as well as refreshments.

The open houses started Thursday with the annual Robinson Elementary School/Robinson Fire Department open house held at the elementary school.
