HOLLAND TWP. — A 37-year-old Zeeland woman died Tuesday morning when her SUV collided with a semi-truck on I-196, near the westbound on-ramp at Adams Street.

Marisela Gonzalez was pinned inside her 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee after the 5:32 a.m. crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said Gonzalez was entering westbound I-196 from Adams Street in Holland Township when the crash occurred.

Adam Lambertson, 33, of Howard City was driving a semi-truck west on I-196, police said, when he saw the SUV entering the highway and moved over to the left lane. Austin said Gonzalez then lost control of her vehicle and it slid sideways in front of the semi. The semi hit the spinning SUV in the driver’s door and both vehicles slid into the highway’s median.

Lambertson was not injured, Austin said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
