Update (4 p.m.) Some fire departments have cleared the scene and others are in cleanup mode. Flatbed trucks from two towing companies removed the cars from the home and a front-end loader was brought in to clear away some debris.

Update (3 p.m.) Firefighters continue to battle a house fire on Doris Court in Grand Haven on Friday afternoon.

Witnesses at the scene confirm that the home belongs to Margie Davis, and that Davis safely evacuated the house.

Neighbors said Davis is affectionately know as the Bird Lady. A former teacher, Davis used her birds to work with special needs students.

Firefighters on the scene told a Tribune reporter that the house is unsafe to enter because of damage to the floor, so they’re bringing in heavy equipment to raze the home.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
