Frigid fishermen

Several area fishermen took advantage of the break from the past week’s wind and snow to go surf fishing at the Grand Haven City Beach on Tuesday morning.

Anglers on the beach used spawn in an attempt to catch steelhead, although the fish weren’t overly cooperative. Other fishermen lined the pier jigging for whitefish, although the action for whitefish typically doesn’t pick up until after dark.

As with any cold weather activity, the proper gear is essential to staying comfortable in the outdoors. Neoprene waders and quality headgear helped keep these anglers warm despite temperatures in the mid-30s.
