Salmon bite slow off GH pier

Grand Haven’s north pier was packed with anglers Friday morning, but the salmon weren’t cooperating.

Fishermen on the pier said three salmon were caught early, and a few of the boats trolling up and down the channel could be seen netting fish. For the most part, however, the action was slow.

Perch fishing was equally slow, with only a handful caught.

As the water temperature in Lake Michigan drops, salmon converge near the mouths of Michigan’s rivers in advance of their migration up the rivers to spawn.
