Muskegon Catholic Central routs Hesperia to stay unbeaten

The Muskegon Catholic Central football team didn’t waste much time taking control of their non-conference matchup at Hesperia on Friday.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and piled it on after that for a 49-9 win over the Panthers.

Cam Martinez got things rolling early for MCC with a 57-yard punt return for a touchdown. Martinez then connected with Nolan Convertini for an 18-yard touchdown pass to extend the Crusader lead to 13-0.

Tommy Watts added a 35-yard touchdown reception from Martinez, while Ryder Smith hauled in an 11-yard touchdown pass, as well.

In the second quarter, Dawson Steigman caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from freshman back-up quarterback Max Price.

Hesperia would get on the board with a 27-yard field goal, but the Crusaders would instantly make them pay, when Watts returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and a 42-3 halftime lead.

In the second half, Carson St. Amour would add a 41-yard touchdown run, while Hesperia’s Scott Peters would add a 19-yard touchdown run.

Martinez finished 6-of-8 passing for 102 yards and two touchdowns, while Max Price was 2-for-3 for 58 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Carson St. Amour led the Crusaders with 106 yards rushing and one touchdown on 11 carries, while Watts added 48 yards and one touchdown on three carries.

Ryder Smith hauled in three receptions for 72 yards and one touchdown to lead the receiving corps, while Steigman added three catches for 58 yards a touchdown, Convertini added an 18-yard touchdown reception and Jackson Reigler added a 12-yard reception.

On defense, Tio Knight recorded eight tackles to lead the Crusaders, while Riley St. Amour and Julian Russick each added seven.


The Crusaders (7-0) host Montague (8-0) next week for a non-conference battle of the undefeated.
