Third-quarter surge helps MCC past Ludington

The Muskegon Catholic Central football team got back on track Friday night with a 34-6 home win over Ludington in Lakes Eight Conference play.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and scored 20 points in the third quarter to establish a 34-0 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

The Orioles would score with 40 seconds remaining to avoid a shutout.

Salomon Waller led the Crusader rushing attack with 150 yards on 15 carries, while senior tailback Dawson Steigman added 96 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries, and Tio Knight rushed 42 yards and one touchdown on six carries.

Sophomore quarterback Max Price finished 7-of-12 passing for two touchdowns and one interception and added a 1-yard rushing score in the first quarter.

Nolan Convertini hauled in an 87-yard touchdown reception, while Christian Gordon caught three passes for 47 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.

Meshawn Crowley led the Crusader defense with 11 tackles, while Bailey Ward Aidan Cook and Josh Holden each added six.

The Crusaders will travel to undefeated Cassopolis on Sept. 21 for a non-conference road tilt.
