Spring Lake standout golfer Nick Krueger is staying busy in his offseason after finishing runner-up at the Division 2 state championships in June.

Krueger has qualified to play in the 71st annual USGA Junior Amateur Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey on July 16.

Krueger cracked the field for the event on June 18, shooting a 70 at Kaufman Golf Course as part of the Golf Association of Michigan USGA qualifier, one of two USGA amateur qualifiers in Michigan and 58 overall.

His qualification puts him in a field of 156 players for the four-day tournament. Eligibility is restricted to any male amateur golfer who has not reached his 19th birthday and whose handicap index does not exceed 4.4.

The tournament follows a match-play format with the low 64 scorers from an opening round of stroke play advancing to bracket play.

The USGA junior amateur has a rich history of winners including Jordan Speith (2009, 2011) and Tiger Woods (1991,1993), representing the only two players to win a pair of junior amateur titles.

Fox Sports 1 is scheduled to broadcast the semifinal pairs on July 20 from 2-4 p.m. and the championship match on July 21 from 1-4 p.m.
